The document archive of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Chieti and Pescara has undergone significant changes over time, to the ministerial reorganization reforms that have modified the territorial competences of the peripheral offices in Abruzzo.
In particular, the cultural heritage archive of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the provinces of Chieti and Pescara preserves documents relating to the cultural and archeological, historical-artistic, Landscape and demo-ethno-anthropolo
gical heritage of the territory archive of the provinces of Chieti and Pescara starting from the 13 July 2020 (following the latest ministerial provision DCPM of 2 December 2019 No. 169, implemented from 13 July 2020)
The historical core of the archive, which is the most substantial and interesting, is the archeological archive relating to the situational activities carried out by the former Superintendencey of Archaeological heritage of Abruzzo, even before it’s establishment in 1939 to the present day for the archeological part, with the exception of documentation relating to the municipalities of the Aquila earthquake crater, which, since 16 July 2016 are under the responsibility of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine arts and Landscape for the province of L’Aquila and the municipalities of the crater.
With regard to the monumental, Landscape and historical artistic archive, the Superintendencey preserves the files relating to the major architectural emergencies in the Abruzzo regione (excluding the municipalities of the crater) since the reform of July 2016, with documents, projects, photographs and drawings relating to the historical artistic protection and restoration of monuments.
For the research and consultation of historical archive documents relating to these lost two areas of protection, it’s necessary to bear in mind regulatory developments in the areas of jurisdiction.
In general, untill 16 July 2016, the monumental, landscape, historical and artistic archives are kept at the former BEAP Superintendencey based in L’Aquila.
The historical archive can be consulted for study and research purposes, up on request to be sent to the Superintendencey of Archaeology.
