The Restoration Workshop

The restoration workshop of the Superintendencey of Archaeology, Fine arts and Landscape for the provinces of Chieti and Pescara has been active since the second half of the 1980 and specialises in the restoration of metal, ceramic and stone materials. It is equipped with all the necessary instruments for direct intervention on artefacts with particular conservation problems, intervening with restoration operations in the workshop for works intended for exhibition or study.

In the field of cultural heritage protection and inspection, restoration officers collaborate with other professionals in drawing up restoration, conservation and enhancement projects.
They carry out inspections in the field on work carried out by third parties, with the aim of verifying the correct methodology of intervention and conservation of materials.
In collaboration with warehouse managers, they ensure that assets are stored correctly in the warehouse.
For their part, restored draw up conservation records and follow the procedural process for loans of assets to Italian and foreign exhibitions.
Following the movement of goods and the stages of setting up museums and temporary exhibitions.

The activities of the officials and technicians working in the restoration laboratories include collaboration with higher education schools in restoration, through training internships for students both in the laboratory and in the field.

In collaboration with research bodies and institutes, research and diagnostic activities are carried out on materials from the territory of competence, aimed at both technological study linked to the history and culture of the populations involved in the study of material degradation, for the accurate identification of the correct methods of intervention and conservation of artefacts and their sites of origin.
In the study and evaluation of innovative materials for conservation, collaborations are active with the aim of experimentation, with the execution of intervention protocols for dissemination in the sector.
Within the scope of the competences and activities carried out by restoration officials, the Superintendencey directly involved in two EUROPEAN HORIZON PROJECTS.
